HOT YOGA, COLD BEER = BEERGA

image1-30.jpeg

In a Newcastle First Rod Cooper from The Movement Collective, The Ohana Room and Murray’s Browing Co for The Cancer Council NSW present BEERGA a combination of HOT YOGA and COLD BEER.

You might think the marriage of Beer and Yoga is a strange one but if you think about it they’re not really that different.

Both are enjoyable, studies have shown that yoga makes you feel good add to that  the delicious, relaxing benefits of beer and you’re onto a winner!

Both Beer and Yoga encourage enlightenment. Yoga is all about reaching a higher level of consciousness and nothing opens your mind up quite like a beer. The relaxing effects of beer can help with meditation, mindfulness, and the consciousness elements of a yoga practice.

It improves your balance! Ok so many, many beers won’t improve your balance but transiting through poses without spilling or knocking your beer will work to improve   your balance!

100% of the Profits raised from the Class will go to the Cancer Council NSW as part of Rod Cooper’s contribution as a Star of Newcastle for 2018.

Rod Cooper said “I challenge myself everyday with my work but this is certainly something different haha. It’s all for a great cause and we’re proud to be supporting the Cancer Council NSW and all their great work”

DATE: JUNE 4, 5:30pm - 6:45pm at The Ohana Room in Cardiff Arcade (upstairs)

BOOK: Thru MINDBODY App on your phone or PM The Ohana Room on Facebook,

$28 for Beer and Yoga

Aldi snow sale

I was at a friend's last night and she was telling me about how she was going to the Aldi snow sale today. I innocently asked if she was taking her baseball bat with her. She laughed, I laughed, we were so funny...

She rang me this morning and perhaps she should have taken the bat. She arrived to a queue before it started and said she thought there were over 100 people by the time the doors opened. Snow gear was being flung around the place and people were pushing and shoving. I saw a post on the NHM group and people were discussing it on there too. One lady said her 6 year old was pushed around. Another lady said that she had been to an Aldi Bonds sale and two zippies had been taken out of her pram.

Did you go today and see any of this? And more to the point, should I go next year and get some video footage???

What's on your Bucket List?

A few of my friends have been talking about bucket lists recently and I'm not sure if it's because we've realised we're all getting older and no longer as immortal as we thought we were, or because we're just keen to get out and try new things. Earlier this year I began ticking one of my bucket list items off and started singing lessons with a friend of mine. So every Friday morning I've been singing my heart out and having the absolute time of my life.

But it makes me wonder what other people have on their lists? To see the world would have to be an obvious choice but I want to know some of the quirky ones guys?!

DOG LOVERS OF NEWCASTLE AND WARNERS BAY REJOICE!

Mick and Monte at Horseshoe Beach which we have affectionately renamed 'dog poo beach'

Mick and Monte at Horseshoe Beach which we have affectionately renamed 'dog poo beach'

YEY we've got somewhere else to take our loveable furry friends! We'd often drive by the 'under construction' fenced off, off leash area at Speers Point groaning 'is it done yet?' our response to each other 'no'. They begun it in March 2017. Eventually we gave up driving by but it's FINALLY done Yippie!

Lake Macquarie’s first fenced dog park opened today at Speers Point! The Newcastle Herald said the Council's statements were that “provided 10,000 square metres of space for dogs to exercise and play freely.. it helps build a stronger community and encourages our residents to become more active as well”

Council is also planing another one in Croudace Bay. Pooches are said to be lapping up every last bit of attention... sorry I had to get at least one pun in.

WHAT'S WRONG WITH NAPLAN?

IMG_4175.JPG

Lots of people fear NAPLAN is doing our kids no good turning classrooms into places of rote learning rather than teaching through discovery and more creative methods, without instilling anxiety in our little ones the way NAPLAN does.

NSW ministers and major players in education policy have been using the word "progression" as calls for NAPLAN’s abolition grab the headlines. But we hear that ALAN the new plan they have in store is worse. It will provide hours upon hours of data entry for teachers and it's more of the same apparently.

Last month a study was released that said NAPLAN’s writing assessment was making Australian students bad writers by promoting "low-level mechanical skills", adding "The NAPLAN essay is severely defective in both its design and execution,"

What are your thoughts on NAPLAN? How could they make it better?

Australia embarrassed ahead of the Royal Wedding

IMG_4166.JPG

You know how your parents used to walk into a party and call your name loudly when you were a teenager to come home and it was SO embarrassing.

I’ve got the feeling that’s about to happen to Australia with the Royal Wedding.

PM Malcolm Turnbull has gone out splashing the cash on the Aussie credit card and got the happy couple a gift from all of us!

He said the present will be 'very Australian'. Oh no Malcolm, not a jar of vegemite or a toy koala for the soon to be born grandkids pleaaasssee.

He said, 'We can't reveal yet. It is very Australian and it appeals to their interests.'

The present will not be revealed until the day of the wedding.

For Prince William and Kate Middleton's wedding in 2011 we splashed the cash and made a donation of $25,000 to the Royal Flying Doctor Service. Nice gift.

Charles and Diana got 20 sterling silver platters in a box lined with blue silk velvet. Lucky they had ample staff to clean the silver.

The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh didn’t do so well with 500 cases of tinned pineapples?! Oh no.

We’re only a few days away from the big event so lets wait and see how Malcolm did. What do you think he got them?

NHM are set to Shine it Up with Jackie Gillies

NHM Mummas get ready to 'Shine it Up' with Jackie Gillies! NHM are stoked to have Jackie joining them on air next week, what would you like to ask her? Plus we'll have an exclusive giveaway for you to win. SHINE SHINE SHINE NEWCASTLE WOOOOOO! (we're a little excited)

ABOUT JACKIE

Sassy, inspirational and adventurous, she devours this dynamic life with style and a smile – and lives it to the shiny brim.

Born in Croatia and raised in Newcastle, New South Wales, Jackie grew up in a strict but close-knit family. Their home was often filled with friends and loved ones enjoying the traditional hospitality of sharing food, dancing, and singing – all of which influenced the fun-loving, straight-talking and spiritual woman she is today.

Jackie was aware of her psychic gift from a very young age, but her career began in banking which nurtured her business skills and entrepreneurial flair. A series of events in 2004 encouraged her to follow her intuition to her true life’s purpose – to help and inspire others through her gift as a Psychic Medium.

Jackie believes your thoughts create your reality. And in twelve years, her earlier intuition has evolved into her own reality, with her positive energy and inspiring spiritual guidance earning her the reputation as one of Australia’s most sought-after Psychic Medium consultants. In 2010, Jackie married the love of her life, musician Ben Gillies (Silverchair’s drummer). They moved to Melbourne in 2013 and now she divides her time between growing La Máscara Beverage Co. which she founded with Ben, television appearances, charity work, and providing Psychic Medium Readings. A portion of her reading fees are donated to The Starlight Foundation, White Ribbon, and Mission Australia.

ABOUT ‘SHINE IT UP’ MAY 22ND AT NEX

As Australia’s highest profile Psychic Medium and one of the stars of The Real Housewives of Melbourne, Jackie Gillies is a popular household name, both nationally and internationally.

After years of requests from her clients, it’s now time to take Jackie’s larger than life, infectious personality on the road, and it promises to be sensational!

In April, 2018, Jackie’s Shine It Up tour will be travelling across Australia. Jackie will take to the stage in 14 cities across the country to spread her words of wisdom, celebrate life and share her unique gift.

Shine It Up is all about self-empowerment, motivation and inspiration. It’s a unique, not to be missed, intimate party with Jackie. Jackie’s main focus is to bring people together to share stories, solve issues and restore people’s inner sparkle so they can truly SHINE.  Imagine Tony Robbins meets Ellen, meets John Edward, meets Oprah.

Should the flu vaccination be mandatory?

On June 1, certain health workers in NSW will be required to have a flu vaccination. However, if it really does have a decent effect, shouldn't the vaccine be mandatory across all health workers areas? A recent article I read showed that not only does increased vaccination reduce employee sick days but it improves patient safety. So in this case, is it a moral duty for health workers to obtain their flu shot?

The topic of vaccinations is such a controversial one and one that tends to cause the most heated discussions. So what are your thoughts on this?

Trace from Married at First Sight tells us "I'm not back with Dean, what a joke"

image1-28.jpeg

MUMMAS! Yes we're shouting, we're a little flustered and concerned that Trace may have given Dean another chance. Trace has ended it with Sean if you weren't up on that, she said she picked him up from the airport and "told him straight away.. I couldn't even wait til he got in the car". To be honest I've done that before too. When you know you just know. NHM has contacted Trace for comment, she has just gotten back to us, she said (since splitting with Sean) "I'm doing ok, it's pretty hard. I'm not back with Dean, what a joke!"  Phew we thought as much but when you have chemistry with someone it can make you do silly things. Trace isn't silly though she's actually super clever.

In the meantime would you like to come meet her with us? She knows a lot about Marketing so anyone in small business could really benefit from a chat with her. Just click subscribe in the link above then PM 'Trace' to us on Facebook. Its June 5 at Vaucluse Tea Rooms in Sydney and includes bubbles a Q and A and canapés.

What Do You Think of Changes to Lovedale Long Lunch?

IMG_4094.JPG

Mummy needs a wine, she's off to Lovedale Long Lunch! However beware a warning has been issued to everyone partaking in our long tradition of getting very tipsy at the Lovedale Long Lunch next weekend.

They want to get rid of people drinking before or in between venues. To do this they’ll be checking people's busses between venues and a limit of one bottle or four glasses per person will be available until 2pm, then it will be a limit of two glasses per sale afterwards.

Takeaway sales will only be available after 3pm.

They are also ensuring people are at their last venue of the day before 3pm on the Saturday in a ‘lockout’ type scenario.

What do you think of these changes? Are they necessary

How did Jess Mauboy go in Eurovision?

Jess Mauboy has done us proud in EUROVISION 2018! It was drama, drama drama.. especially when a fan invaded during the UK's performance. Comic Joel Creasey caused a stir calling the invader 'an absolute c**khead'. Lots of people questioned if we should be there because we're not from Europe but retaliators said we weren't the only non-Europeans so rack off.  Jess came 20TH lots of people thought that wasn't fair but great job nonetheless, go Jess!

Fire Up your Saturday Night

Fire at The Edwards in Parry Street

Fire at The Edwards in Parry Street

One NHM Mumma did a  shout out looking for places to have dinner with a fireplace. How amazing is a real live fireplace on a cold afternoon or evening. Even better still sitting next to one with a cool beer, Sav Blanc or a cheese platter and a Shiraz, ok I'll stop now. NHM Mummas mentioned these places; The Edwards pictured above, The Junction Hotel, The Delaney, The George Tavern Greenhills and Bonta Vera at Minmi. If you know of any others please share.

Baby it's COLD outside

AJ Bartle

AJ Bartle

Goodness me was was it cold this morning! And that wind wow, not good for the skin. Check out this picture from the Central Tablelands of NSW. We're in for a bumper ski season too it looks like with Hotham receiving around 20 centimetres of snow already. I can't wait to go skiing again. Everyone seemed to think it was too dangerous while I was pregnant so I haven't been for a very long time. This cold, windy weather is set to continue til Friday.

It's Almost MOTHER'S DAY

Drink in (no pun intended) the love of your beautiful little creations and rejoice, you are a Mumma! And a damn fine one, which is why I declare 'The Festival of Mum' officially open.

One of my brilliant Mumma friends Ali Cooke has created an amazing place for you to celebrate with loved ones this Sunday. Everything we love is there tapas like street eats, market stalls, live music, craft beer and fine wine. Come celebrate with Bec and I at Five Senses and a shout out to my beautiful Mumma friend Ali for creating Five Senses and being an awesome hustling Mumma. We love hearing about Mummas doing inspiring, creative things and working hard at their own dreams as well as looking after their bubbas!

Happy Mother's Day Love NHM x

Mel Watts you are our hero

So no doubt you may have seen a recent post by the amazing Mel Watts 'the modern momma', where she shared a post on Instagram with herself sitting in her underwear. She does this to show her followers that they matter, really matter. This really resonated with me, mainly because of her bravery. We all have our so-called flaws that society has placed upon us, but not many of us are willing to share this with so many. Instagram is well known for it's beautiful shots of seemingly perfect models and buff, toned dudes looking well, buff. So it is so refreshing to have someone leave themselves exposed like this. She offered her followers two options, to offend or to spread love and I am so pleased to see that this particular post was liked so far over 20,500 times and had almost 1500 comments of support. As women and mothers we need to support each other. This is the BEST example to be presenting to our children and I believe that by teaching our children to support and love others, we could really make a big dent on bullying.

Congratulations Mel, you are so incredibly brave and your message to us mums is truly inspiring.

The changing face of dating

Back when I first started dating you would meet someone at a pub or club or through a friend or at work, basically it was pretty much all done in person. These days it is estimated that around 4.5 million Australians are using online dating and it is in fact the second most preferred way to meet a new partner behind an introduction by family and friends.

Imagine being a stay at home mum of three super young children and finding yourself single when you're in your mid 30's? Yep that was me. I was terrified of the whole idea of it to be honest. The only reason I actually did was because I read on a social media group that it could be a hilarious way of occupying your quiet nights alone once the kids were all tucked up in bed. So I set up a profile, decided to be completely honest and include photos of myself with my children and sat back and waited. I found the majority of my journey was using my gut and trying to separate the men from the jerks. I initially met someone nice but perhaps it was a bit early or perhaps he wasn't quite right so it ended and then I randomly messaged (yes it's a modern world now) another guy I thought looked nice, he messaged back, we started chatting, realised we had mutual friends, and decided to go on an actual date. Queue the nerves because I hadn't dated properly for over 13 years but I puckered up the courage and went. I haven't looked back.

But has the stigma of online dating stopped a lot of people from trying it? My mum still tells all her friends that we met through friends! Have you met your partner online? I'd love to hear some other stories, successful or not.
